Tapping Trees!
We start tapping most years Febraury first. It takes us a full four weeks to drill the 14,000 5/16" holes and install the new plastic spouts in all the trees.

In 2010 we had a very large snow storm that blanketed the woods with at least three feet of snow. We found snowshoes and bought a pair for every man to allow them to keep moving. You couldn't even see the lines the snow was soo deep. Although we didn't finish tapping, we were grateful to get a full 12,000 taps online for 2010.

In 2011 we also had record snow, and were forced again to use the snowshoes. We had enough snow in the woods to continue using the snowmobiles right through the end of March. Usually that much snow indicates a poor season, but the opposite proved true!
Placement of the taphole is important!
We drill a 5/16" hole 1 1/4" deep.
There are over 100 miles of pipe run through the almost 200 acres of woods!
